Education Outside of The Classroom (EOTC)
Classroom Skiing/Boarding

Term 3 only. Years 4 to 8
Ski /snowboard on set designated days one day per week (weather permitting).
Costs include:
- Helmet Hire
- Skis/boots/poles
- Lessons
- Transport

Fundraising options are available for
all students to help with costs. Ruapehu Alpine Lifts assists with substantial discounts and all mountain hire and lessons.
School Ski/ Board Race Teams
Term 3 only
Skiing
A squad of skiers are chosen from the school for the
Ohakune Primary School Ski Race Team and are trained
by coaches one day per week (weather permitting).
Coaching consists of refined techniques for racing preparing the students for three major races during term 3- the Central Plateau, the Mapei Cup and the North Island Primary School Ski Champs. Two teams are chosen from the squad to race in the North Island Primary School Ski Champs Team/s.
School Camps & Sleepovers
The school organises school camps and sleepovers for students on a yearly basis. In February 2011 year 5 & 6 students will be camping at the YMCA (Ruakawa Falls) for two nights. The main focus is to develop skills such as leadership, confidence, resilience and independence.
World Heritage National Park
Through the year students are involved in activities in our
National Park and in our rivers relating to sustainability.
This year the students will be involved in golf, mountain biking,
the Outdoor Pursuits Center near Turangi, and river safety.
Careers
Students are regularly involved outside the school in situations
that can enlighten them in their future careers.
Recycling/Conservation:
Ohakune Primary School prides itself on conservation and recycling, with students working along side the Department of Conservation and Ruapehu District Council in community activities. The students participate annually in town and mountain clean-ups as part of their community responsiblity
